CRISIS: BACK TO NORMAL?
The economic crisis is over. Specifically, economic, because with the mes of the Republic, the Independence, the article 155 of the Constitution and the call for elections by remote control, it is necessary to clarify if we talk about economic crisis or a political one
Crisis: Back to Normal? (I)
Officially, it’s over. Macroeconomic data speaks for itself, low unemployment, exports go sternly, investment works, there is an increase of mortgages, etc. Some data begin to be worrying, though, but they have their origin more in the media than a physical one: boycotts to certain products; the companies that supposedly leave; the sudden cancellation of tourist reservations, etc. Data, that must alltogether be relativized in the context of a more political and economic context.
But, leaving, even if it costs, the political environment, the economy, does it work? Is the 2008 crisis over? Are we facing an economic miracle? It must be said that behind every economic miracle there are always sacrifices of silent crowds. The so called garbage contracts, precariousness, inability to leave the family home, dependence on grandparents’ pension, unreachable real estate prices. All this data makes us think, despite the goodness of the macro data, that there is something that does not fit.
And what does not fit is normality. We have not returned to normal for the simple reason that we cannot return to it, we can never return. We have mutated. We have left the crisis behind and we have entered into a situation that has nothing to do with the previous one. It is not about minimizing the problems, but to assume that these problems, unfortunately, have become part of the new normality
Can we return to the model of the welfare society? Maybe it will be possible, but it will not be like before, because everything has changed. It should be done differently, using other resources, imagining new paths.
